Increased access to improved water and sanitation is a main component in the campaign against poverty. The World Bank supports local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines in the design and implementation of a series of innovative water and sanitation projects. These projects are characterized as people-centered, market-based and earth-friendly. Projects completed by LGUs through the Bank’s assistance include water supply systems, sanitation, drainage networks, and capacity-building programs.

By sharing its global expertise, as well as the multi-disciplinary support it infuses into both the project design and implementation phases, the Bank’s involvement has given added value to the local experience.
