Rural Development
Ang karukhaan ay hindi
hadlang sa pagtatagumpay
(Poverty should not be seen
as an obstacle to success)
In the Philippines, rural development has
been identified as one of the national priority areas in the governments poverty
alleviation strategy. Promoting agricultural productivity, in particular, represents an
integral component in the drive to reduce rural poverty. The World Bank supports the local
government units (LGUs) in the Philippines in their efforts to uplift the conditions of
the countrys rural areas. In the Rural Development Sector, the Bank has been
involved in the promotion of sustainable agricultural development, investment in rural
infrastructure, research and extension programs to cover underdeveloped areas and
under-serviced groups, and the promotion of natural resource management. The Bank has a
series of on-going projects in the sector involving local infrastructure projects,
capacity building, and technology transfer programs.
