Urban Development

infoCity
    infoCity is a World Bank capacity building initiative for local governments, assists municipal associations in Asia in scaling up their knowledge sharing activities among cities in each country. The initiative takes a new “networking approach” that aims at enabling cities to communicate with each other and to access to global knowledge and resources. The new networks build on existing knowledge sharing efforts of municipal associations and CDS cities, and introduces a range of tools that help foster partnerships enabling civic leaders, municipal officials and the development community to exchange their latest hands-on practices and innovations on city management.
Urbanicity
    Urbanicity provides city officials with a platform to explore aspects of urban management. Urbanicity information targets city managers, local level policymakers, urban planners and directors of urban service and infrastructure provision. The objectives are to advance their knowledge and understanding of urban issues and to present the tools they need to plan, manage and govern their cities.

Cdsea.org - Philippine City Networking
    CDSEA.ORG is a knowledge network and investment marketplace for participating Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Philippines to enable them ready-access to the best practice and business opportunities in urban areas.
The Urban Institute
    The Urban Institute is a non-profit policy research organization established in Washington, D.C. in 1968. The Institute's goals are to raise awareness about social problems and efforts to solve them, provide information to assist local government units in making informed decisions about development issues and prepare proper implementation plans, and increase the public’s sensibility to urban issues that can greatly affect their lives.
The Urban Land Institute
    The objective of the Urban Land Institute is to promote responsible leadership in the use of land resources in order to enhance the total living environment. Their website provides technical information on the efficient use of land for the development and modernization of municipalities, with the ultimate objective of improving the local economy.
Development Gateway - Urban Development
    The Development Gateway is an interactive portal for information and knowledge sharing on sustainable development and poverty reduction. The Urban Development topic page is designed to raise issues and questions about the most effective management practices — from providing transportation and water systems to improving education and healthcare. It includes long-range planning ideas and information, as well as more immediate management tools. The Urban Development topic page contains resources and invites discussion about the effective urban development practices. It addresses long-term planning as well as more immediate management tools to improve the quality of life in urban areas.
The World Bank Group's Urban Development Website
    The World Bank with its partners is committed to promoting sustainable cities and towns that fulfill the promise of development for their inhabitants -- in particular, by improving the lives of the poor and promoting equity -- while contributing to the progress of the country as a whole.  This website provides resources on various key thematic areas on urban development such as the City Development Strategies, Local Economic Development and Management, Disaster Management among others.  Likewise, it also links to the Bank's strategy on urban development including its policies and projects. 
SERP-P or SocioEconomic Research Portal for the Philippines
    SERP-P is an online electronic database of completed, ongoing and pipeline research studies related to economic development and policymaking in the Philippines. It links various socioeconomic studies implemented by various research institutions such as the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), government agencies and the academe. At present, only PIDS studies and selected studies of a few universities and research institutions are contained in the SERP-P.But the database will be regularly updated to include the studies of other institutions. All pertinent data from abstracts, authors, focus of study, geographical coverage, and availability can be found in the SERP-P. Most of all, researchers can leaf through some of the studies' full text.
SOSIG Social Science Information Gateway
    SOSIG provides thousands of selected high quality Internet resources on social sciences, business and law.
Eldis Gateway to Development Information
    Eldis is a gateway to online information on development in countries of the South. Hosted by the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, UK, its coverage areas include social, economic, political and environmental issues. Eldis makes a qualititative selection of materials and structures it for easy access.

CASE STUDIES

a) Capital Markets Development at the Sub-National Level

This study provides insights on how to analyze the financial capacity of local governments, their comparative levels of creditworthiness, and the local governments’ perception and use of capital market financing. It also includes a database for other relevant information on the topic of urban/rural development and municipal finance, as well as links to similar projects.

b) Municipal Finance and Development in the Philippines
    This abstract gives an overview of the importance of LGU autonomy in facilitating rural and urban development. It also contains a link to a World Bank Impact Evaluation Report, which discusses the effects of municipal level projects at the national level, specifically with regard to institutional capacity building.
c) The Changing Landscape of Municipal Finance
    This is a study/slideshow prepared by the City of Glendale, Arizona on how municipalities can sustain their standard of living in the face of economic adversity. The presentation is helpful for LGU officials and others concerned with the issues facing the micro-economic state of a municipality, the detrimental effects of E-commerce on municipal taxation, and other issues that affect local economic development.
